THEATRE TUSCALOOSA’S PROJECT BROADWAY RETURNS

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa announces the return of Project Broadway, a summer intensive workshop for teens held in the Bean-Brown Theatre  June 8–12, 1–5 p.m. daily, with a final performance at 6 p.m. on June 12. The camp offers a week of training for talented high school performers. The theme for this summer's camp is “Scene Stealers”.

“Scene Stealers” will be an intense week of auditioning, learning choreography, rehearsing music, creating blocking, and rehearsing lines as participants will prepare a cabaret style performance. This year’s team of instructors includes Sara Margaret Cates and Nicholas Vasilios Pappas.

Cates grew up on the stages of Tuscaloosa’s vibrant theatre community, performing with Theatre Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa Children’s Theatre, The Rude Mechanicals, The Actors Charitable Theatre, and the West Alabama Repertory Theatre. She now serves as the Director of Performing Arts at Tuscaloosa Academy, where she has directed multiple award-winning productions and continues to inspire young artists. A Druid Arts Theatre Educator award recipient and an award-winning playwright, Cates is a dedicated professional theatre artist, advocate, and educator.

Pappas is a multi-hyphenate theatre artist based in Tuscaloosa. Recent acting credits include "Manny" (Master Class) with Theatre Tuscaloosa, "Various" (Big River) with Virginia Samford Theatre, "Dance Teacher Pat" (Dance Nation) with Theatre Downtown, and "Louis/Billy" (Sunday in the Park with George) with Terrific New Theatre.

“It is so important for young artists to participate in camps like Project Broadway,” Executive Producer Michael Walker said. “It is a safe space for creative young minds to thrive and learn lifelong skills.”

Participants must be 13 to 19 years old by June 8.  Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 30 participants. Tuition for Project Broadway is $300, which includes two tickets to the final performance and a participant t-shirt. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available.

Registration and more information is now available at www.theatretusc.com or by calling the ticket office at 205.391.2277.
