THEATRE TUSCALOOSA ACADEMY RETURNS WITH IMPROV, TAP, AND HOUSE MANAGEMENT CLASSES

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa Academy returns this fall with six classes on the line-up: An Improv Primer, level one and two Adult Tap Classes, an Intro to Improv 8-week course, a Beginning Improv 8-week course, and a House Management Training. All six will take place on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405).


An Improv Primer introduces beginners to the world of improv with instructors Blane Burroughs and Elijah Crocker of Two Loose Improv. This two-hour, one-day introductory workshop is designed for absolute beginners featuring improv games, the core principles of "yes, and," and other theories that make improvisational theatre such an exciting art form. This low-commitment opportunity will get students energized and ready to sign up for the deeper, multi-week improv classes. This course is for ages 16-adult. An Improv Primer takes place on August 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the SSCC Choir Room. The cost of registration for each is $30 and this fee may be applied towards the Intro to Improv 8-week course.


Level One Adult Tap Class acquaints students with fundamentals of tap dance technique, rhythm, and coordination. In this introduction course, no previous dancing experience is needed. Level two tap class is designed for students who have already completed a Level 1 tap class or have some basic experience and understanding of tap dance fundamentals. Classes are on Monday nights with level one at 6:30 p.m. and level two at 7:30 p.m. starting on Aug. 24 and finishing Oct. 5 in the SSCC Dance Studio with instructor Allison East. There is no class Sept. 7 due to the Labor Day holiday. The cost of registration is $60 each.


An Intro to Improv is an 8-week introductory course led by instructors Blane Burroughs and Elijah Crocker of Two Loose Improv. This course takes students to the next step in their improv journey as they work in long-form improv and go beyond simple games to build the fundamental skills to create compelling scenes out of thin air. Classes run Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. starting on Sept. 9 and finishing November 10 in the SSCC Choir Room. There is no class October 13 due to the Worlds of Work event at Shelton State. The cost of registration is $200.


Beginning Improv is the second 8-week class in our improv series and is also led by instructors Blane Burroughs and Elijah Crocker of Two Loose Improv. . It's designed for students who have taken the 8-week Intro to Improv course or other introductory long-form improv classes. This course expands the fundamental skills needed to create improvisational scenes and develops the ability to commit to acting choices. Classes run Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m. starting on Sept. 10 and finishing November 10 in the SSCC Choir Room. There is no class October 15 due to the Worlds of Work event at Shelton State. The cost of registration is $200.


The House Manager Training will teach participants the ins and outs of how to train and lead ushers in providing superior service to Theatre Tuscaloosa patrons while ensuring their safety and security. This

two-hour training also includes a tour of the newly renovated Bean-Brown Theatre and other facilities at Theatre Tuscaloosa. Participants will receive their own personalized Theatre Tuscaloosa house manager name badge and the opportunity to sign-up for “Clue” house management sessions this fall. The training will take place on September 13 in Room 1944 at Shelton State. Admission is free.
