TUSCALOOSA, AL – Shelton State will hold open auditions for Peter and the Starcatcher February 2 and 3 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405).
Embark on a magical journey that explores the longing for adventure and the discovery of one's true home. This imaginative tale reminds us that home can be found in the most unexpected places, within ourselves and in the bonds we create. The play provides a backstory for the characters of Peter Pan, Mrs. Darling, Tinker Bell, and Hook. It serves as a prequel to J. M. Barrie's Peter and Wendy.
Molly Page, Shelton State’s Theatre Coordinator and head of Shelton State’s theatre program, will direct this production. She is joined by Jeanette Waterman, costume designer; Nicholas Pappas, musical director; Amber Beck, stage manager; Dr. Elijah Pugh, band leader; Katy-Mei Williams, properties designer; and Therrin Eber, scenic designer.
“Peter and the Starcatcher is a Shelton State production, and while it will be a priority to cast Shelton State students; we encourage any and all members of the community to audition,” Page said. “This show gives us the magical and whimsical backstory of the Neverland that we never knew.”
Several roles are available ranging from teens to adults. Actors of all races, ethnicities, and gender will be considered. A full cast of characters and their descriptions can be found on the Theatre Tuscaloosa website. Auditioners will need to prepare a 30-60 second song in the style of the show and for cold readings from the script. Those interested in auditioning should compose a complete calendar of any potential conflicts with the rehearsal schedule. No memorized monologue will be required to audition.
Scripts of Peter and the Starcatcher are available to read in the Theatre Tuscaloosa Management Office in advance (recommended); however, scripts may not leave the premises. The office is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. – noon in the lobby of the Bean-Brown Theatre at Shelton State.
The final rehearsal schedule will be announced after casting. Rehearsals will generally be held after 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Sundays until closer to performance weeks. Peter and the Starcatcher performances run April 15-18 at 7:30 p.m. and April 19 at 2 p.m. in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College.
