Spring 2020

House Manager Training

Date: Saturday, January 25, 2020

Time: 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Location: SSCC Room 1944

Are you or someone you know highly organized and super friendly? Are you already a house manager looking to brush up on your knowledge? During this two hour training session, we'll give a tour of the theatre, teach you how to handle audiences and volunteers like a champ, and make sure you have all the need-to-know essentials on safety and organization. House Managers are a key component of any theatre's personnel, helping to create the link between the front-of-house and stage management so that the show runs as smoothly and effeciently as possible. Spring Improv Session I

Basic Improv: The Fundamentals

Dates: Jan. 27-Mar. 2, 2020

Time: Mondays, 7pm-9:30pm

Location: SSCC Dance Studio

Instructor: David Grissom

Tuition: $195 (Get $20 off when you take A Taste of Improv)

 

This class is a six-week workshop in which students start to learn the skills needed to create strong improvised scenes. Some of these skills include building ensemble, giving and taking focus, object work, and, one of the most crucial fundamentals of improv, the concept of “yes, and.”  Students get up and play a variety of exercises and games that train the analytical side of the brain to focus on simple goals, freeing the creative side and silencing the negative thoughts that can make us freeze in performance. These games are high energy cooperation and a ton of fun to play. No previous experience is required. Students must be at least 16 years of age. Mastering Improv: Long Form

Dates: Jan. 28-Mar. 3, 2020

Time: Tuesdays, 7pm-9:30pm

Location: SSCC Dance Studio

Instructor: David Grissom

Tuition: $195

 

This class is for students who have completed Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Improv, and wish to continue honing their improv skills for performance in the areas of Advanced Scene Work, Characters & Environment, and Styles & Genres.  This class is very focused, and students can expect critical feedback needed to grow to the next level. A true commitment is needed to succeed in this class. Students must be at least 16 years of age. Class requires a minimum of 6 registered students by Jan. 22. Register online or by phone at 205.391.2277.

Spring Improv Session II

Intermediate Improv: Scene Work

Dates: Mar. 23-Apr. 27, 2020

Time: Mondays, 7pm-9:30pm

Location: SSCC Dance Studio

Instructor: David Grissom

This class is a six-week workshop in which students who have completed "Basic Improv" will take their learning to the next level. Students learn the skills crucial to scene work, including emotion, listening, and transformation, as well as continuing to hone skills learned in Basic Improv. Students must be at least 16 years of age. Class requires a minimum of 6 registered students by March 18. Register online or by phone at 205.391.2277.

Mastering Improv: Musical Improv Focus

Dates: Mar. 24-Apr. 28, 2020

Time: Tuesdays, 7pm-9:30pm
