“Some Enchanted Evening” Auditions Scheduled for September 5 & 6

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open auditions for Some Enchanted Evening, a musical featuring the songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein, September 5 and 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405).

Some of the greatest musical numbers of all time were penned by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Timeless songs like “Shall We Dance?,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” and “Oklahoma!” are performed with fresh styles and sensibilities in this captivating musical, Some Enchanted Evening.

Some Enchanted Evening will be directed by Jake Boyd, a Tuscaloosa native with professional credits on Broadway in Wicked and Rock of Ages, in the National Tour of Wicked, and more. He is joined by Leslie Poss, musical director; Ashlyn Lambert, stage manager; Jeanette Waterman, costume designer; Therein Eber, lighting designer; and Ava Buchanan, hair and makeup artist.

“No matter what you bring in, bring in you. I want to see your personality; I want to know who you are because this is not a traditional show, Director Jake Boyd said. “I would love to build on the strengths and talents of the performers in it. It’s going to be an incredible show, and we’re gonna have a lot of fun.

Some Enchanted Evening lends itself to a variable size of cast. All actors are encouraged to audition using 16 measures of a song from the show, a Rodgers and Hammerstein song, or a song from the Golden Age of Musicals for which their voice is ideally suited. An accompanist will be provided to play sheet music. All who audition must bring their calendars and list all conflicts regarding the rehearsal schedule on their audition sheets. For this audition, check-in will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. with auditions starting at 6 p.m.

Theatre Tuscaloosa strongly encourages all auditionees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to protect themselves and the integrity of the production. Scripts of Some Enchanted Evening are available to read in the Theatre Tuscaloosa Ticket Office in advance (recommended); however, scripts may not leave the premises. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. – noon.

The final rehearsal schedule will be announced after casting, but rehearsals are tentatively scheduled to begin on September 11 and will generally run 7 – 10 p.m. Monday through Friday evenings and 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Sundays until closer to performance weeks. Some Enchanted Evening performances run October 18 – 22, 2023, at the Bama Theatre.
