The Charles W. Dennis Memorial Endowed Performing Arts Scholarship is a Full Tuition Scholarship. Thanks to the generous contributions of our Pay-What-You-Can Preview audiences. 

 

The $5,000 annual scholarship covers full tuition plus enough for books and supplies at Shelton State Community College for a whole year, and the scholarship can be renewed for more than one year.

Qualifications

The Charles W. Dennis Memorial Endowed Performing Arts Scholarship is for a full-time student seeking a career in technical theatre or a related field.

  • Students must receive a recommendation from their high school or college teacher that addresses relevant experience, abilities, and aspirations in technical theatre or related fields.

  • Students must have and maintain a 2.5-grade point average.

  • Potential candidates must have an in-person interview with staff members of Theatre Tuscaloosa to review their relevant experience. Contact Theatre Tuscaloosa at 205.391.2277 to schedule an in-person interview.

  • The recipient will be required to work 16 hours per week in the scene shop as a crew member on at least one Theatre Tuscaloosa or Shelton State theatrical production each fall and spring semester while on scholarship.

 

This award is open to graduating high school students, students already enrolled at Shelton State, or college students transferring to Shelton State. Priority will be given to previous awardees of the scholarship. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies.

The Charles W. Dennis Memorial Endowed Performing Arts Scholarship is offered by the Shelton State Community College Foundation to students who will be enrolled at Shelton State for the coming year. 

 

 


To apply, you must complete and submit the necessary application packet. For this scholarship, the application packet should include:

  1. SSCC Foundation Application Form

  2. One-page Essay Describing Education Goals and Financial Needs

  3. Teacher/Instructor Recommendation Letter

  4. Theatre Tuscaloosa Recommendation Letter (Submitted by Theatre Tuscaloosa Following In-person Interview)

  5. Unofficial transcript from the educational institution you are presently attending or the institution you most recently attended. This requirement includes Shelton State Community College students.  Students currently seeking their GED or students who have earned their GED should upload proof of their enrollment/completion.

The deadline for scholarship applications usually occurs during the first week of March each year. Visit the Foundation Webpage for specific deadline information.

 

Application packets must be completed and submitted on time in order to be considered; late and/or incomplete packets will not be considered.
