Charles W. Dennis Memorial Endowed Performing Arts Scholarship

The Basics

The Charles W. Dennis Memorial Endowed Performing Arts Scholarship is a FULL TUITION SCHOLARSHIP. Thanks to the generous contributions of our Pay-What-You-Can Preview audiences, the Shelton State Foundation has recently been able to increase the annual award of the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship from $250 per year to $5,000 per year. This amount is currently enough to cover full tuition plus enough for books and supplies at Shelton State Community College for a whole year, and the scholarship can be renewed for more than one year.

The Charles W. Dennis Memorial Endowed Performing Arts Scholarship is for a full-time student seeking a career in technical theatre or related field. Students must receive a recommendation from their high school or college teacher that addresses relevant experience, abilities and aspirations in technical theatre or related field. Student must have and maintain a "B" average. Potential candidates must have an in-person interview with staff members of Theatre Tuscaloosa to review his or her relevant experience. Contact Theatre Tuscaloosa to schedule an in-person interview. Recipient will be required to work 16 hours per week in the scene shop as a crew member on at least one Theatre Tuscaloosa or Shelton State theatrial production each fall and spring semester while on scholarship. Award is open to graduating high school students, students already enrolled at Shelton State, or college students transferring to Shelton State. Priority will be given to previous awardees of the scholarship. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program required supplies.
