This winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical is family-friendly and piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs. It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire – to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network, all without denting her 'do! Click here to read our full press release.

Sunday, July 20 Theatre Tuscaloosa will host its first Grandparent’s Day. Patrons are encouraged to bring their grandchildren and share the love of theatre with the newest generation. In addition, students from the SSCC Cosmetology program will be on site an hour prior to the show to create 60’s era hairstyles for little girls on a first-come-first-served basis.

Thursday, July 24 Dr. Trudier Harris will host a pre-show discussion about the history of television integration in America in the Alabama Power Recital Hall. A nationally and internationally active scholar and a member of the International Literary Hall of Fame for Writers of African Descent, Harris’ primary field of research focuses on the complexities of southern African American identity and experience. Her last published volume was The Scary Mason-Dixon Line: African American Writers and the South, which Choice labeled as one of the “Outstanding Academic Titles” for 2009 and which won the 2010 Creative Scholarship Award from The College Language Association.  The free event will start at 6:30 p.m. and seating will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

Friday, July 25 the audience will be invited to stay for a post-show talk back with the cast of Hairspray. Interested patrons are encouraged to stay after the show to meet the cast, learn more about the rehearsal process, ask questions and discover what each actor thinks about the character they portray. There will be no additional charge for this event.
