Attracting corporate sponsors is like a complex mating ritual. Beginners will learn the corporate language of love via tangible examples of research, relationships, and reciprocity.

 

Presenter Bio: 

Adam M. Miller has served as the Managing Director of Theatre Tuscaloosa since 2010.  He holds an M.F.A. in Theatre Management/Arts Administration from The University of Alabama, having interned at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.  He previously served as the Director of Marketing & PR for LSU’s Equity theatre, Swine Palace Productions.

Presenter Bio: 

Jen Nelson Lane is a proud member of Actors' Equity Association. She has been a professional stage manager for nearly 20 years with credits ranging from Broadway to academic theatre.  Jen is currently an adjunct professor at both the University of Montevallo and Samford University.

Workshop Description:

Quick changes can be a challenge, to say the least. In this workshop, you'll learn some best practices for making them as painless as possible for your actors, dressers, stage hands, stage managers, and audiences.

 

Presenter Bio: 

Jeanette is a native of Mobile who studied Clothing and Textile Design at the University of Alabama. She has served as the full time costumer for Theatre Tuscaloosa since 2000. During that time she has designed and created the costumes for more than 80 productions. She has also done costume work for independent films and regularly assists local schools with their shows.

Workshop Description:

Through a brief overview and open discussion about the process of directing for the theatre, participants will gain a better understanding of the role of the director in the production process and the skills it takes to be a director.

 

Presenter Bio: 

Tina Turley has over 35 years experience as a director, actor, producer, educator, and writer in theatre.  She has been the Executive Producer of Theatre Tuscaloosa since 2006.  She received the 2018 Theatre Hall of Fame Award from the Alabama Conference of Theatre.

Workshop Description:

Get an insider's view of what makes the difference when writing your ASCA grant. From peer reviews, to ASCA staff reviews, to council-member reviews, Yvette knows which grants are likely to receive recommendations of full funding, partial funding, or no funding, and why. Community theatres regularly receive ASCA grants, and with the right knowledge, yours could be next!

 

Presenter Bio: 

Yvette Jones Smedley holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Management and Arts Administration from the University of Alabama and is a member of Actors' Equity Association. She has more than 25 years of service to the Alabama arts community performing in various capacities including instructor, actor, director, producer and administrator.

Old Age Make-up: More Than Just Lines on Your Face

Workshop Description:

Many of us assume that "aging up" is simply a matter of creating deeper wrinkles on our faces. In this workshop, more subtle and sophisticated techniques for creating an "authentic" old-age make-up design will be demonstrated and explained.

 

Presenter Bio: 

Joey Lay is the founding artistic director of The Actor's Charitable Theatre. He studied theatre at the University of Alabama and vocal performance at Shelton State Community College. Theatrical make-up is a passion of Joey's that he has pursued in earnest for make-up-heavy productions such as Shrek the MusicalThe Addams' FamilyThe Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, among others.

Workshop Description:

Take a look at free and reduced-cost products and services for nonprofit community theatres from companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Salesforce. This presentation will discuss what's available, how to sign up for them, and how to use them effectively to take your community theatre's tech to the next level.

 

Presenter Bio: 

Terry Kelley is the President and Executive Director of Auburn Area Community Theatre. He has more than 50 years' experience in performance and more than 25 years' experience in directing and theatre management. Terry holds a BS in Information Technology Management and a Masters in Business Administration. He has certifications in Google Analytics, Google Ads, Financial Management in Development, and Project Management in Development.
