Theatre Tuscaloosa, one of the largest community theatres in the state, works in partnership with Shelton State Community College to provide quality theatrical experiences to the citizens of West Alabama through performances, workshops, and classroom instruction.
By combining the talent and resources of the non-profit theatre company with the facilities and administrative support of “Alabama’s Community College of the Fine Arts,” Theatre Tuscaloosa and Shelton State Community College have created a partnership model that has enriched the lives of countless Alabamians.

Our Facilities
Theatre Tuscaloosa's home, the Bean-Brown Theatre, is located in the Sandra Hall-Ray Fine Arts Centre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College. The 430-seat state-of-the art theatre includes rehearsal halls, three large ensemble dressing rooms and two principal dressing rooms, costume and scene shop.
The fully-equipped theatre is designed with two-way communication to all areas, an actor's green room with audio/visual monitors of the stage, full sound and lighting packages, and a 45-line counterweight system. All lighting positions are accessible by catwalks or hallways for ease and safety in designing lights for productions. The 30x80 foot scene shop directly adjoins the stage and has a loading dock capable of accommodating large trucks. The costume construction and storage facility, with almost 2,000 square feet of space, is located in the dressing room area.
The Alabama Power Foundation Recital Hall, served by the central box office/lobby area, was designed specifically for musical presentations. This intimate 100-seat space has been acoustically engineered for vocal and instrumental performances. A small control booth in the rear of the hall is equipped with both digital and analog recording equipment and is wired to the theatre's control booth to further expand its capabilities.
The Bell South Gallery, leading to the theatre, is designed as a showcase for the visual arts of all disciplines, from traditional arts and crafts to the fine arts.
Other facilities immediately adjacent to the theatre include a complete teaching and rehearsal suite for dance with large, mirrored practice rooms, dressing rooms, and offices. Large choral music and orchestral rehearsal halls with numerous individual practice rooms and private studios complement the facility. Visual art facilities include studios for all media, from sculpture to painting and ceramics to photography.
