Abe ReyboldTheatre Tuscaloosa is thrilled to welcome guest director Abe Reybold to Tuscaloosa as he leads our production of Godspell!  Here's more information about this incredibly accomplished and prolific artist...

Abe Reybold graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts (A nationally recognized public Arts High School) and continued his studies at Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music in their venerable Musical Theatre Program. His Broadway and International Touring acting credits include: GRAND HOTEL-THE MUSICAL (starring Cyd Charise) and THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES (starring Keith Carradine) both directed by his early mentor, Tommy Tune; Also, JEKYLL AND HYDE as Simon Stride (directed by David Warren and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell). Abe played the “Pharoah” in LIVENT’S final company of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT opposite Donny Osmond. For Encores! City Center, Abe appeared in ONE TOUCH OF VENUS and THE BROADWAY BASH! (2001 and 2003). At Carnegie Hall, he sang in IRA GERSHWIN AT 100 (PBS Great Performances) and MAD ABOUT THE BOY (Noel Coward’s Centenary). Other concerts include singing with The New York Pops, at Town Hall, The Kennedy Center and with The Alabama Symphony. He has played leading roles in plays and musicals across the country at The Paper Mill Playhouse, Goodspeed Opera House, The Walnut Street Theatre, Fifth Avenue Music Theatre, Casa Manana, Maine State Music Theatre and The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera among others.

Abe has worked with some of America’s finest Theatre Artists including the late Peter Genarro, Tommy Tune, Graciela Daniele, Kathleen Marshal, Jack Lee, Rob Fischer, Jeff Calhoun, Mary Jane Houdina, Randy Skinner, Hunter Bell, Brent Barrett, Liliane Montevecchi, Julie Wilson, Paul Gemignani, Patti Cohenour, Kelli O’Hara, Sutton Foster, Victor Garber, Kristin Chenoweth, Walter Bobbie, Tony Stevens and Pierre Dulaine. He has been a student in several professional training programs including The Manhattan School of Music, The Eugene O’neill Theater Center and Chicago’s Director’s Lab.

In 2003, Abe harvested his experience and began a career as a Director/Choreographer and Writer. Productions across the country under his direction include; EVITA, NITE CLUB CONFIDENTIAL, NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY, BAT BOY, BLOOD BROTHERS, THE MELODY LINGERS ON,“SPELLING BEE”, THE CASE OF THE DEAD FLAMINGO DANCER and DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. His direction of new musicals includes; 13 ALABAMA GHOSTS AND JEFFREY, TUXEDO JUNCTION, BACK TO THE DREAM (Co-director) and RIPPER.  For the Birmingham Children’s Theatre, Abe created SACAGAWEA, adapted and staged PETER AND THE WOLF, was a co-creator of BCT’s successful touring hip-hop fable TIME TAKERS, staged the re-imagined THE SNOW GIRL as well as SCROOGE and ZORRO. For the Red Mountain Theatre Company, he has written and directed SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY; THE ROSEMARY CLOONEY SONGBOOK (2 subsequent regional productions) RESPECT; A TRIBUTE TO THE QUEEN OF SOUL, DOO-WOP and five consecutive Christmas Revues.

Abe has served as adjunct faculty in the departments of theatre and dance at Birmingham Southern College and the University of Montevallo. His Writing, Direction and Choreography have been honored by Portland, Oregon’s Drammy Awards and the Portland Area Musical Theatre Awards. He is a member of Actors Equity and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.
